Do DWTs need to be hosted?
« on: December 26, 2011, 11:30:30 PM »
Hello, I am fairly new to Expression Web even though I have been using it for years. I basically used it to edit a template that I purchased and have not done much with it since. When I looked back at all the code it was very sloppy, and would not validate so I am redesigning the site using what I am learning and validating the CSS and the HTML as I go.

One thing that I was curious about is do I need to have the DWT on the host server? Since the code is included on each page, it seems like it would be unnecessary. Is there a benefit/drawback of including or not including the DWT?

No you don't need to have it on the server, for the reason you mention. You can exclude the DWT from publishing if you choose, with no harm. I tend to publish it anyway, partly because it is just the easy path, and partly because that way I have an extra backup of the DWT just in case something goes horribly wrong. The size of the file is minimal, so that shouldn't be an issue. It's up to you how you want to do things.
